The Story of Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is celebrated on February 14th.  But do you know why this day is celebrated?

In old Rome there was a priest called Valentine. He was very nice and kind with kids. He was very glad to see people in love and he used to perform weddings.
One day, the king of Rome banned all the marriages and nobody could get married because he was in war with other countries and if his soldiers got married, they would not want to leave their families.
People still loved each other, so Valentine started performing weddings in secret. When the king found out about this, Valentine was arrested.
While in jail, Valentine received a lot of gifts, cards, cookies, chocolates and letters. One day he received a special visit: a blind girl. She took some food and a letter for him. Valentine was very happy to see the girl there. He touched her eyes and the girl started seeing again. It was a miracle. Valentine sent a letter to her as a thank you for her visit and signed it “From your Valentine”. That’s why people sign it in Valentine’s Day cards nowadays and celebrated this special day.
