13 GRAMMAR GAMES AND ACTIVITIES FOR FUN LEARNING

Here are a few grammar games and activities that we can use to excite the students before, or during, grammar lessons. Some of them offer cool introductions of new concepts while others offer a teacher some methods to make practice more memorable.

1. The Verb Family Tree

Focus: Verb

This tree will teach the students different forms of verbs as children of the root verb.
You can do this activity on the whiteboard or you can opt for a worksheet version. Either way, you first have to start on the board so the students get the idea.
  • Draw a family tree with four branches
  • The root or trunk is the root word or the main verb
  • Name every branch a particular form. For example, the branch of the eldest brother could be the third-person singular form of the verb. Another branch is plural or past form, and so on.
  • Demonstrate with one word and call excited students to name siblings of verbs of your choice.
You may also let them play this game in pairs.

30 ACTIVITIES INSPIRED BY GAME SHOWS

Game shows and TV quizzes are a great source of inspiration for classroom activities. Believe it or not, I keep a notepad on the coffee table so I can jot down any teaching ideas I get from watching TV!

ATIVIDADES

1 – A Galinha Cega

Material: Venda para os olhos.
Disposição: Todos em círculo dando as mãos, menos um, que representará
a galinha cega.
Desenvolvimento: No centro do círculo se colocará um participante
vendado: a galinha cega. Depois de dar três voltas sobre si mesma, se
dirigirá a qualquer pessoa do círculo e apalpará seu rosto para tentar
reconhece-la. Se conseguir, troca de lugar com ela.
Objetivos:
* Percepção tátil;
* Percepção dos outros;
* Vivenciar uma atividade sem utilizar a visão.

Flashcard games

Flashcards are effective and easy to use, making them an ideal resource in the primary classroom.
Here are ten simple ideas for using flashcards to present or revise vocabulary. If you have confident children in the class, get them to take over your role as teacher.
1- Point
Put six flashcards in different places around the room. Say a word, and children point to the relevant card.
2-Clap hands
Hold up a flashcard and say a word. If the word is the same as the item on the card, the children clap their hands once. If the word and the flashcard item are different, they must keep silent.
3- Odd one out
Take a lexical set of flashcards, e.g. animals or food. Include one card that is not in the same lexical set as the others. Hold up each card in turn and children say the name of the item. When you show the card that is not in the same lexical set, children call out 'Odd one out!'

Emotions Card Game

The game cards are divided into two types – those with an orange border are the activity cards (16 cards in total) and those with a purple border are the emotions cards (40 cards in total). Download the game cards here.
Print two copies of all cards onto matte photo paper or cardstock. Cut them out and laminate for durability.

To play:

Ways to Play & Learn With Emotions Cards.

Place a set of cards face down on a stack. Turn over the top card. Have your child name the emotion and make a face to match.

2. Guess the Emotion

#Printable #Time #Telling #Game

To play this game you will need 3 dices (can also use 4), preferably in two different colors. You could also use less dices and have the kids throw them multiple times. We used two red ones for hours and a white one for minutes (each number meaning 10 minutes). As kids throw dices they have to push the hands of the watch to match the hour and minutes on dices.
Like we threw 3 (red dices) and 4 – that translates to 3:40!
Now if you want to give this game a goal you can write down a few different times kids must “score”
Easy method: Kids must hit a time between 03:30 to 4:00
Hard method: Exact times – like 10:20

#Drawing #Games for #Kids : #Roll the #Dice

Here is a silly drawing games that is a lot of fun for kids to play. In this drawing game, you use dice to decide what parts of the drawing you will draw. We have included a face drawing game and a landscape drawing game.
This is a lot of fun and it helps children who might not be able to draw freely and creatively...this will help them draw more freely and creatively. This will also increase silliness.

https://www.drawinghowtodraw.com/stepbystepdrawinglessons/2016/06/drawing-games-kids-roll-dice-drawing-game/

In this face drawing game, students use dice to decide what parts to draw.
Can they then describe the result using a variety of adjectives?
How else would you use the game?

Board game Use a Word

USE A WORD helps students build their vocabulary, provides grammar practice, and helps with sentence formation.

Tic-Tac-Toe: Setting Discussion Goals.

Tic-Tac-Toe: Setting Discussion Goals.

The Idea:  Select random conversation / discussion topics and assign them to random squares on the grid. One team is ‘O’ and the other team is ‘X’. In order to claim a square the student must make a sentence if it is a vocab item, or in this case use it as a prompt to talk about a topic.

This is a very low-prep activity and it can be done on a whiteboard/blackboard with a few different colour markers/chalk.
Or it can be done on a piece of paper with the students coming up with questions that can be peer checked before playing.
Draw a 3×3 grid and write the questions you want to discuss. The game can be played in pairs (one person discusses or answers the question) or in a group of four (two teams of two. Each team has a discussion to claim a square.)
With 9 questions or topics, there are plenty of discussion goals that will keep the students talking.

Another way to play the game is to prepare a handout.

The benefit of preparing a handout is that you can produce several different versions of the Tic-Tac-Toe game, so that each pair/group will have different discussion topics.

Fun get-to-know-you activity

Here's a fun get-to-know-you activity in which students write the things in life that they can't imagine living without, and then take turns asking questions about why they are important to them.
