WHY LEARNING ENGLISH  IS SO IMPORTANT ?

O Inglês abre assim as portas para o desenvolvimento pessoal, profissional e cultural.  Há estimativas de que 85% das publicações científicas do mundo, 75% de toda a comunicação internacional por escrito, 80% da informação armazenada em todos os computadores do mundo e 90% do conteúdo da Internet são em Inglês.

O inglês é falado como primeira língua nos Estados Unidos, Grã-Bretanha, Canadá, Irlanda, Austrália, Nova Zelândia, África do Sul e vários países das Caraíbas.

A língua inglesa apresenta-se em vários itens que usamos no dia-a-dia: no E-MAIL que você envia pela Internet, no JEANS que você veste, no HOT DOG ou HAMBURGER que você saboreia, na comida LIGHT e DIET ,no SELF-SERVICE do restaurante, no ROCK que você ouve, no VIDEO GAME e no SKATE das crianças; no SHOPPING CENTER onde você passeia e faz compras, na moda FASHION das vitrines, no SHOW que você assiste na TV... Com a globalização, o mundo se interligou e houve a necessidade de uma língua comum a todos, com a qual os diferentes países pudessem se comunicar, e esta língua é o inglês.

My Family - a speaking activity

Student A and student B are two siblings who " have lost their memory" as a result of a serious fight. 

They ask each other general/special questions to find out the facts they don't remember and circle the right words / fill in the missing information. 

Boys and girls - a speaking game - activity for young students

This game  help  first and second graders learn to talk about people's names, age andmood (sad/happy). It's also a good way to revise colours and numbers (1-14), as well as practise making affirmative, negative and interrogative sentences using to be (am, is are) and differentpronouns. 

   There are 14 boys, 14 girls and 7 sets of tockens.

Writing Jar

The idea here is to have a jar full of writing prompts, the ones I’ve included have a big range. I tried to include thought-provoking, serious, funny and creative,  so that each time they reach into the jar they’ll be challenged with a different kind of writing and style. It helps keep it from being boring and exposes them to lots of different ways of writing. Of course you can fill it with your own prompts… whatever works for your homeschool.

Here’s a few tips for using the jar & prompts

#1- “Why? is implied” – There are some prompts like, “What is your favorite song?” Or “Write about someone who inspires you.” Or  “If you could only say 20 words for the rest of your life what would you pick?” They don’t all have “Why?” written after them. I told the boys that if there is one where “Why?” makes sense at the end of it that is part of the question.

JUNE´S PARTY HISTORY

June’s party was first a celebration of a good harvest and the Portuguese introduced the party in Brazil, after 1500.
They were called “Joaninas” party, but as it is in the same period of some saints’ days, the catholic church celebrated St. Anthony, St. John and St. Peter as well.

June Fest!!!!

June Parties, or Festas Juninas as they are known in Brazil, are parties held throughout the month of June to commemorate the saints John, Peter and/or Anthony (depending on the region). Brought to Brazil by the Portuguese when they colonized the country in the early 1500´s, the parties are a celebration with fireworks, dancing, eating and drinking, costume wearing and games.

June parties are celebrated in many countries around the world. However, they are particularly popular in Christian European countries because of their origin and much of the festivity is dedicated to Saint John the Baptist as he is said to have been born six months before the birth of Christ; hence the traditional ´Feast of Saint John´ on the 24th of June.

Interactive notebook

The purpose of the interactive notebook is to enable students to be creative, independent thinkers and writers. 

Interactive notebooks are used for class notes as well as for other activities where the student will be asked to express his/her own ideas and process the information presented in class.

Warm-up activity

1) I explain what an acrostic is. Then I give them coloured paper and ask them to write their names vertically on the left side of it. Then I ask them to make a list of verbs using the letters. The verbs can be used only once. 

If there are three names starting or containing L, the first student saying LIKE will keep that verb. So there will be just one Like, one Have; it means they will have the challenge to think fast.
